The Tech Teambuilding Journey by Ethan Turon

A Quantum Technologist

Software Development

...is a journey. Like all journeys, you get the most out of the experience if you plan your goals and objectives in a disciplined effort to reach your destination (carefully and within budget). A lot of things can happen along the way. If you were on a road trip, you might get a flat tire, you might run out of gas, you might get pulled over. You could lock yourself out, The AC could give out, maybe your windshield breaks. Someone could get sick. Likewise, in the Information Technology and the Software Development journey, anything can happen. Road trips are easier to understand, but, in truth, in my memory palaces, I liken the IT journey to flying an airplane or sailing a cruise ship. In my domain, I'm the air traffic controller, the cartographer, also sometimes the pilot. At any rate, I have to make sure the planes land when and where they are supposed to, as well as prevent catastrophic mid-air multi-engine failure. So, I have to engineer the least amount of cost or and risk, and I rely on my wealth of experience to do that. The health of the vehicle in the IT journey is just as important as the the destination, and the plan. I measure the health of the vehicle as well as the progress of the journey with metrics - certain metrics that I have identified over a very long career of managing a wide range of digital products.
